In a move nobody had on their 2026 streaming bingo card, James Bond is officially reporting for duty on Netflix. As part of a surprising licensing deal between two of the biggest rivals in streaming, Amazon is sending four major Bond films to Netflix this January — including one of the franchise’s most beloved modern entries. Starting January 15, Netflix subscribers will be able to stream Die Another Day, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and No Time to Die across the U.S., Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Benelux, Italy, the Nordics, and Latin America.
Yes, that means Daniel Craig’s era — from its rockiest chapter to its emotional finale — will be front and center on the world’s biggest streaming platform. It also means that Madonna's appalling, ear-bleeding theme song for Pierce Brosnan's final Bond film will be inflicted upon unsuspecting victims.
The deal goes beyond 007, too. Netflix will also pick up Amazon-owned films like Rocky, Creed, and Legally Blonde, along with the Prime Video original series The Man in the High Castle. It follows the recent arrival of Hunters, the David Weil-created conspiracy thriller that quietly made the jump from Prime Video to Netflix earlier this month.
Why Is James Bond Going to Netflix?
According to Amazon insiders speaking to Deadline, licensing Bond to Netflix is a “strategic business decision designed to broaden global reach and reengage audiences.” Isn't it sexy when global conglomerates speak "blue sky thinking" in our ears? Translation: the math finally math-ed. The revenue from short-term licensing outweighed the downside of helping a competitor — a sign that the content marketplace is loosening up again after years of platform hoarding.
Chris Ottinger, Head of Worldwide Distribution at Amazon MGM Studios, put it more diplomatically:
“When Amazon acquired MGM, Amazon’s plan was to continue licensing MGM’s iconic library to streaming and television partners around the world. Bringing these iconic films and shows to Netflix is part of that continued strategy. James Bond remains one of the most enduring and influential franchises in cinematic history… and this agreement reflects the continued global appetite for premium storytelling and the strong working relationship we’ve built with Netflix.”
The main thing is that Amazon isn't abandoning Bond. The streamer still runs its annual Bond window around Global James Bond Day in October through Thanksgiving, while MGM+ continues its yearly “all-Bond” programming stunt through December and airs select films year-round. Oh, and they're still making a Bond film with Denis Villeneuve. So that's something.
