Pierce Brosnan has made it clear that he’s ready to move on from James Bond.
The iconic star recently cut a discussion short about one of the greatest spies of all time. Brosnan portrayed the character in four films (GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day) throughout his career. And, James Bond is arguably the role that launched him into international stardom. But the actor is seemingly tired of talking about 007.
Bronsan made his feelings known about the secret agent during an interview with The Times. When he was asked if James Bond would enjoy Christmas, the actor gave a short answer. He told the publication, "Of course, he would enjoy Christmas!" However, when he was thrown a follow-up question about the iconic spy, he immediately shut it down.
The Times journalist who interviewed Brosnan inquired about whether Bond's standoffish personality would actually make him avoid the jolly holiday altogether. The actor responded by stating that he would rather not answer the question. He explained by saying that it was a waste of his time to wonder about what a fictional character would do on Christmas. He added that he actually couldn't possibly care less about it.
I don't really want to answer the question, and I'm not going to answer the question. Because I couldn't give a f***! Why would I waste my time thinking about where James Bond would be at Christmas?
Brosnan did apologize to the reporter for his bluntness. He explained that it was just tiresome to be constantly asked about a character he played decades ago. "I'm sorry for not being able to help you with James Bond. It's something that'll go on until the day is done."
He also mentioned that he wasn't the only Bond actor who didn't like speaking extensively about the role. He used Sean Connery as an example. Brosnan also praised all the actors who have ever portrayed the smooth agent. He applauded the performances of Daniel Craig, Tim Dalton, and Roger Moore, as well.
[Sean] Connery was the same: 'Don't ever ask! Don't ever ask!' But, you know, I'm as excited as the next man or woman to find out who's going to play that role again. It's always exciting. I loved Sean, I loved [former Bond star] Roger [Moore], Daniel [Craig] is amazing, and Tim Dalton was amazing, too.
Although Brosnan didn't want to speak about Bond any further, he was happy to discuss his own Christmas plans. He revealed that he would be spending it with his wife in Hawaii. He enthusiastically told the publication, "I know where Pierce Brosnan's going to be spending Christmas!" he said. "At home with my wife, in my little island retreat in Hawaii!"
