An upcoming Star Wars sequel to The Clone Wars is finally giving fans a story they've longed for since Episode I - The Phantom Menace. The Phantom Menace is not the best-ranked Star Wars movie, but it provided some great elements.

Be it Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon and Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan or one of the best Star Wars action sequences, Episode I certainly had redeemable elements. Some of these elements were further capitalized on during the timeline of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and have continued to be big parts of the franchise today.

One of those elements in question will be part of the next Star Wars TV show, a Clone Wars sequel, and will provide fans with a story they have desired since 1999.

What Is Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord About?

The show in question is 2026's Maul - Shadow Lord, a TV show set after The Clone Wars. The show is set to focus on Maul during the era of the Empire, as he reclaims his grasp on the criminal underworld of the Star Wars galaxy.

His rise to become the boss of Crimson Dawn, as shown in Solo, will be explored, as will his attempts to train an apprentice in the ways of the Force. Via this show, Star Wars is providing Maul with a story audiences have always wanted to see.

Maul was one of the aforementioned standouts of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. He had an excellent, menacing design, a great stunt performer under the makeup, and one of the best lightsaber fights in the franchise. Sadly, George Lucas made a big mistake in killing off Maul.

Despite that, his legacy endured, with millions wanting him as the lead of his own story. Maul - Shadow Lord will provide exactly that. Finally, the character will have a solo project focused entirely on him, exploring what made him so great in The Clone Wars, his criminal links, and a connection back to his Sith ways via an apprentice.

Almost 30 years after Star Wars fans began desiring a story about Maul, Lucasfilm is granting that wish.

Maul Has Taken Over Star Wars Since His Clone Wars Return

Since being resurrected in The Clone Wars, Maul has taken over Star Wars. He appeared in several episodes of the original show before going on to be a vital part of Disney's first Star Wars project: Rebels. Maul then came back in The Clone Wars season 7 in 2020, as well as several wider canon appearances in books or comics.

Maul - Shadow Lord will continue this trend, giving the former Sith Lord his own show. If successful, the show will only further Maul's dominance in Star Wars since his return in The Clone Wars, undoubtedly delighting fans who fell in love with the villain in Episode I.
