While there seems to be no shortage of exciting games similar to Cyberpunk 2077 that can tide you over until the release of its sequel, a recent announcement is turning heads for all the right reasons. Although it's not as well-known as CD Project Red's expansive RPG, a RUINER is one of the most iconic Cyberpunk games from the last decade, and you'll want to keep its follow-up on your radar.
The indie studio Reikon Games officially revealed its latest sequel with an official trailer for RUINER 2 on YouTube. While the existence of RUINER's sequel had been teased in the days leading up to the reveal, the announcement finally confirmed the project's existence and offered a new major feature to look forward to with the introduction of 4-player co-op functionality.

As a long-awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed RUINER, almost a decade after its release, the action RPG sequel seems to be taking things to the next level with a greater level of fidelity and new combat mechanics to look forward to.
With the original top-down shooter praised for its brutal action, unmatched atmosphere, and immersive soundtrack featuring legendary artists like Sidewalks and Skeletons, RUINER 2 already has plenty to offer for fans of the Cyberpunk genre.
Although details about the sequel seem fairly scarce so far, it seems to be a continuation of the original game that introduces a new set of characters through its shell system, which offers an in-game explanation for the sudden introduction of multiplayer into the previously single-player-only experience.

Although the top-down gameplay might not be the spiritual successor to Cyberpunk 2077 that you are looking for, the depth of its chaotic gameplay mechanics offers a unique take on the classic hack-and-slash action of Diablo's top-down gameplay. The introduction of four-player co-op also brings RUINER 2 even closer to its ARPG roots.
On top of the addition of its cyberpunk multiplayer mechanics, RUINER incorporates the concept into its single-player experience as well by letting you swap between characters mid-combat. Unleashing brutal combos and ability synergies upon your enemies through its "lightning-fast combat" systems, as described on RUINER 2's Steam page, the upcoming ARPG seems to offer even more combat flexibility than its legendary predecessor.

Even though the original game didn't have as much of a standout story compared to other innovative Cyberpunk games coming out, if its predecessor is anything to go by, you'd be hard-pressed to find a franchise with a combat loop and atmosphere as satisfyingly addictive as RUINER 2 when it eventually releases.
