The Black River girls basketball team defeated Fennville 55-38 on Monday, March 2, in the first round of the Division 3 district tournament.
The River Rats were led by Delyla Martinez with 23 points, Meghan Davis with 11, Zayna Usmani with nine and Sawyer Hamberg with six.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBlack River hit nine 3-pointers and played strong defense, led by Olivia Hartman-Lazano, Zoe Swalla and Sophia Davis.
Fennville was led by Ceeley Howard with 18 points and Amiyah Johnson with 11.

The River Rats advanced to the district semifinals where they will take on No. 10 Saugatuck at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at Saugatuck.
The other semifinal will follow with Grandville Calvin Christian facing Wyoming Potter's House.
DIVISION 1
Zeeland East 67, Holland 17
The Chix won the Division 1 district opener on Monday, March 2.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementLizzie Risdon scored 23 points to lead Zeeland East. Emry Wyngarden had seven points, while CC Kuras, Lily Huzienga and Tenley DeWitt each had six.
The Chix advanced to the district semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, against Grand Haven at Zeeland West.
The second semifinal will feature West Ottawa and host Zeeland West.
DIVISION 2
Hamilton 51, Allegan 3
The Hawkeyes won the Division 2 district opener game on Monday, March 2, at home.
Leah Brink scored 11 and Emma Slotman scored eight, while Brooke Petroelje and Kelsey Mersman each added six.
Hamilton advanced to the semifinals against Otsego at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at Hamilton.
