Leo Pareja: ‘Consolidation begets more consolidation’ (WATCH)

EXp Realty CEO Leo Pareja, REMAX CEO Erik Carlson and Douglas Elliman CEO Michael Liebowitz debated the state of the real estate industry at Inman Connect New York.

Consolidation was the name of the game in the opening moments of Inman Connect New York earlier this month.

“If we look at historic patterns, consolidation begets more consolidation,” eXp Realty CEO Leo Pareja said while on stage. “So is that good or bad? That is yet to be determined.”

“I agree, consolidation is going to happen, maybe it’s coming together, maybe it’s coming apart,” REMAX CEO Erik Carlson said moments later.

The conversation happened during a session that also featured Douglas Elliman CEO Michael Liebowitz, and which ranged across a series of hot button real estate issues such as multiple listing services, foreign real estate markets, and private listings.

“That’s what an actual monopoly looks like,” Pareja said later in the session while describing the difficulty of working with a major portal in the United Kingdom.
