The best mobile network mostly comes down to coverage

Posts By  Samuel Contreras

This isn't the first time T-Moile has blown AT&T and Verizon out of the water when it comes to raw speed, and judging by the margins it is leading by, it is unlikely to be the last (via Android Authority).

In the second half of 2025, T-Mobile led the mobile market across several key performance metrics. Recording a median download speed of 259.48 Mbps, and a median 5G download speed of 309.41 Mbps, the carrier was crowned as the Best 5G Network and the Best Mobile Network overall for the period.

This was ahead of the next place, Verizon, which recorded median download speeds of 130.64 Mbps, which is less than half of what T-Mobile is providing to its users.

Here are all the performance parameters T-Mobile dominated:

  • Best Mobile Network
  • Fastest Mobile Network
  • Most Consistent Network
  • Best 5G Availability
  • Best Video Streaming
  • Best Gaming Experience
  • Consumer Sentiment

Despite winning almost all, the carrier giant did fall short on one important metric. When it comes to overall mobile coverage, T-Mobile clearly isn't the most reliable. Verizon still maintains the highest Coverage Score in the U.S. (30.0 percent to T-Mobile's 23.9 percent), with AT&T coming in at second.

The report also highlighted Verizon and AT&T's strengths, with the former holding its own in Best Mobile Coverage, as mentioned above, and 5G video experience, and the latter being the fastest and most reliable Fiber ISP.

While Verizon and AT&T are clearly still trying to put up a fight, T-Mobile remains the undisputed champion when it comes to the overall network experience.

Data for this Ookla report was collected between July and December 2025.
