A new game announcement may be hinting at an upcoming PlayStation 6 project, if the release date is any indication. The PlayStation 5 has been out for over five years, bringing it ever-closer to the end of its run. There has been plenty of speculation recently about when Sony's next console will hit shelves.

We may not know when the PS6 is coming out, but we may already know an upcoming next-gen title. GeniGods: Nezha by Genigods Lab was just announced to have a 2028 release window. This estimated release, revealed in a press release and spotted by Push Square, lines up perfectly with the estimated release of the PS6.

Is This The First PlayStation 6 Game?

The Release Date Lines Up

There were seven years between the PS3 and PS4, and another seven between the PS4 and the current-gen PS5. That means the time is nearing for the PlayStation 5 to be dethroned by the next generation of consoles.

A recent analysis of the state of the games industry indicates that the PS6 may arrive a bit later than expected. Tariffs and RAM shortages might push the next PlayStation console release back.

If Sony follows its old pattern, though, 2028 will mark the PS5's seventh year in circulation. As such, Genigods: Nezha might be the first unofficially revealed PS6 game. According to the press release, the game is coming to PC and PlayStation 5, and is "optimised for PlayStation platforms in collaboration with Sony"—further suggesting that the game will be available for more than just one PlayStation console.

Genigods: Nezha is a title that might interest God of War fans. The game comes from Genigods Lab, which has worked with Sony on the My Hero Academia mobile game. Genigods is a big departure from the anime video game. The title will be an action RPG with a dark aesthetic, described in the press release as "hardcore."

The game runs on Unreal Engine 5 and is steeped in Chinese mythology. Follow the story of the first human in the world as she turns into the legendary Chinese deity, Nezha. The gameplay and journey are reminiscent of the God of War franchise, following Nezha through a world of gods and legendary heroes.

Whether Genigods: Nezha will really be the first PlayStation 6 game remains to be seen. But either way, this is a gorgeous game worth keeping an eye on.
