Assistant coach Chase Haslett is the latest New Orleans Saints coach to interview for a spot on the Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff. On Monday, NFL insider Jordan Schultz was the first to report that the Steelers had received permission and completed an interview with Haslett to join the new staff under recently hired head coach Mike McCarthy. The role for Haslett is expected to be as Pittsburgh's tight end coach and passing game coordinator.

Chase Haslett served as the tight ends coach for the Saints this past season, his first with New Orleans. Previous to that, Haslett had worked for McCarthy with the Dallas Cowboys. He was hired by McCarthy and the Cowboys in 2020 as the offensive quality control coach, his first NFL coaching job. Haslett served in that role for three years before being promoted to the Dallas tight ends coach in 2023 and their passing game specialist in 2024.

Haslett, 33, was a collegiate quarterback for Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 2014 and 2015. He had been the tight ends coach at Mercer University in 2019 before being hired by McCarthy and the Cowboys. Under Haslett in 2025, Saints tight end Juwan Johnson had by far the best statistical production of his career with 77 receptions and 889 yards.

Chase Haslett is the son of Jim Haslett, former NFL linebacker and head coach. Jim Haslett was a linebacker coach for the Saints in 1995 and the New Orleans defensive coordinator in 1996. Haslett would return as head coach of the New Orleans Saints from 2000 to 2005. From 2000 to 2004, Jim Haslett's offensive coordinator for the Saints was Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy and the Steelers have already zeroed in on other New Orleans Saints assistant coaches in addition to Chase Haslett. The Steelers have already hired former Saints great Jahri Evans as an offensive line coach. Pittsburgh has also interviewed and may be nearing a deal with New Orleans quarterback coach Scott Tolzien to be the offensive coordinator on McCarthy's staff.
